Anyway here are the answers to the questions nobody has asked me, enjoy!

Limitations of the data in Tag Adder

There are some notable limitations of the data Tag Adder has on artists and labels, which translates to the data not being exhaustive. For instance an artist may have a SoundCloud profile, but it is not in the Tag Adder database.
To understand how something like that might be the case, please read the The information I add and how section.

Likewise the data is not necessearily up-to-date, meaning that if an artist have deleted their Facebook page, then it will likely still be in the Tag Adder database.

These issues stem from the fact that keeping this data up-to-date and accurate ca not really be automated, which means that it is up to people (specifically me) to do that work. And, well... I am not going to do that. It would be an immense amount of work to try and keep this amount of data up-to-date and accurate, and that is not something I am willing to do. It is simply not realistic to do so.

I will naturally correct information if I come across something that needs to be corrected, like if I notice that an artist or label no longer has a Facebook page or if it has changed name.

What information I gather when I add new artists or labels can be read about in the The information I add and how section.

In the next section, Missing or incorrect information, you can read how you can help to keep the data up-to-date and accurate.

Missing or incorrect information

There is no easy way to keep a database like this up-to-date, so it relies on manual work to have the correct data.

Ideally artists and labels should add themselves and make sure to keep that data up-to-date, but if you find that an artist or label is not being matched, please add them. If you find missing or incorrect information on an existing artist or label, please suggest the changes by finding them through search and clicking the "Suggest changes" link.

Even if you know that an artist or label has not got Facebook and/or Instagram pages, please supply that information as well. It is still relevant information to add, as it will then show to people that there is no tag to be found for that artist or label, as opposed to it just being missing.

Please be aware that this site is only for trance artists and labels (and artists remixed by trance artists).

The information I add and how

The short version is that I only add uplifting trance artists and labels, because that is what is relevant to my usage. It is already a bit of work to do so, and I have no intention of increasing that workload.

How I go about finding the information for each artist and label is fairly uncomplicated:

Each day I check the trance section of Beatport for new releases (within the uplifting constraints). If I find an artist or label that is not already in the database, I then take their name and try to find them on Facebook and Instagram.

If I find profiles I then also look for links to other sites that Tag Adder stores information on, and I naturally add those as well.

Regarding finding the Facebook and Instagram profiles; there are some things that might cause someone with a profile to not get added:

  • Artist or label name is very generic, resulting in a lot of matches. Unless something obvious sticks out I am not going to click through a whole bunch of profiles, to try and find the possible correct one.
  • Artist or label name on Beatport does not match with a profile name, causing it to not show up in the search results.
  • There is nothing in the profile that I can use to verify that this account actually belongs to the artist or label. Like for instance if there is no mention of the latest release(s) or similar.

Basically I am not doing some extended search to try and find the profiles (remember that I do this for free, on my own time), nor will I look for any information other than Facebook and Instagram profiles - and only add whatever else I can find linked from those.

About other trance subgenres than uplifting

The first version of Tag Adder only did uplifting trance artists and labels (and what was in close orbit of that), but with this version I am opening it up to any trance subgenre. How exhaustive and correct this will be is entirely up to you. I will keep adding uplifting artists and labels, and only those, so anything aside from uplifting will have to come from the community.

I am only one man, and there is no way I am going to increase the workload I already have with adding uplifting trance artists and labels.

Something doesn't work or you have a suggestion

In either case contact me and we'll take it from there.

I am open to hearing suggestions on how to improve the site. If you're missing something or there is something that would make things easier for you, then let me know and I will see how feasiable it is to do.

Likewise if you find that something is not working, or looks completely off, then let me know (as detailed as possible), and I will see to getting it fixed.

However there are two important things to note though:

  • The site relies heavily on the use of JavaScript. If you are using noscript, or something similar, then you need to whitelist this website, otherwise Search and Text Tool will not do anything.
  • If you are using an old browser or some obscure thing, then please do not write me about something being broken. I am not going to put in time trying to fix stuff for old or obscure browsers. I am not getting paid to do this - it is not my job. So it is much easier for you to use a different browser, compared to me spending possibly a lot of time trying to fix something that basically no other users are affected by.

Why I made this website

I make a monthly trance mix called Infinitely Uplifting, containing some of my favourite releases for that month, and the time it took to write the Facebook posts was too much. Finding the pages for artists and labels and copying and pasting in the tags took more time than it should, and it was pretty tedious as well.

Having worked as a web developer quite some time ago (well, I never really stopped, but it is self-employment now and only doing things I want to do), before becoming a music producer, it was an easy solution to just make a website that could do the tagging for me, so I could save a lot of time doing those posts.

I figured I probably would not be the only one who wanted to save time and not deal with the tedious work it is, so I decided to make a nice looking and user friendly website for everyone to use, completely free and without any annoying ads.

Who I am

Just a random guy from Denmark. I'm "a bit" of a nerd and I produce (uplifting) trance music under the name Amend Infinity.

I also make graphics/videos, websites (backend, frontend and layout), random programming in various languages, and I am an avid photographer.
